Biography

Andrew “Jack” Nissen, age 91 of Ridgeville Corners passed away on Saturday evening, May 15, 2010 at his residence.
He was born November 9, 1918 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Andrew S. and Gladys Fern (Prime) Nissen. On December 17, 1938, he married Verona Baer, who survives in Ridgeville Corners.
Jack owned Andy’s Bar & Grill in Ridgeville Corners from 1950-1980. He worked on the railroad prior to his military service. He was a WW II Army veteran serving from 1944-1946. Jack was a member of the Ridgeville American Legion Post 454 and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Corners, where he served as past president of the church council and was a deacon. He was a former fire chief of the Ridgeville Fire Department. Jack and his family went to their cottage at the Hemlock Lake, near Reading, Michigan from 1950-2005, where he enjoyed fishing. Some of Jack’s interests were woodworking, carvings, making jewelry and racing homing pigeons.
He is survived by his wife Verona of 71 years; two sons: A. Larry (Doris) Nissen of Jacksonville, Florida and Scott V. (Joanna) Nissen of Wauseon, Ohio; a daughter Kay Lynn (Edwin) Reno of Marietta, Ohio; nine grandchildren: Mitch, Audrey, Shelley, Brent, Lisa, Kathy, Julie, Jennifer, and Troy; 16 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by an infant sister and a grandson Eric.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Corners with the Rev. Vicky Coombs, officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Ridgeville American Legion Post 454.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 6 - 8 PM in the Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home and also on Wednesday for one hour prior to services at the church.
