Mary Elizabeth Boomgarden, age 99 of Hamler, Ohio died on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Lutheran Home of Napoleon.
She was born October 25, 1910 to the late William and Ella (Dayringer) Eisaman. On June 11, 1933, she married Rev. A.J. Boomgarden who preceded her in death on January 27, 1970. One son, James William Boomgarden, and four brothers, Raymond, Woodrow, Waldo, and Victor Eisaman also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Boomgarden) Norman of Port Orchard, Washington; two grandchildren, Christopher Norman of Phoenix, Arizona and Amy (David) Frese of Port Orchard, Washington and three great-grandchildren, Cody Stamper-Norman and Ethan and AnnaMarie Frese; three sisters, Ruth Eisaman, Betty (Eisaman) Bronikowski and Treva (Eisaman) Miller, all of Toledo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. B., as she was fondly known, taught school for 36 years, 33 of those years in Hamler Local School, which later became part of the Patrick Henry School system, as the first grade teacher. She retired in 1981, but continued to help out in the schools as a volunteer. She began the “Kid’s Room” in the Hamler building providing one-on-one help for whatever assistance a student needed. She loved working with children!
She belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary teacher’s organization, the Wide-A-Wake Club of Hamler, the Luminary Seven, and the Heritage Society. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Hamler serving there for many years in many different capacities. In 1998 she was given the Medical Mutual of Ohio Outstanding Senior Volunteer of Ohio Finalist Award and the Gleaners Award for Outstanding Community Service. She was also Grand Marshall for the Napoleon Christmas parade.
Calling hours will be on Friday, June 18, 2010 from 4 – 8 P.M. at the Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home in Napoleon, Ohio, where The Delta Kappa Gamma Society will hold a Necrology Service prior to the visitation at 3:30 P.M.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Hamler, Ohio on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Lindsay Shaner and Rev. Norman Norden, officiating. A private interment will be held in the church cemetery prior to the Celebration of Life Service.
The family requests no flowers be given in her memory, but would prefer memorials be made to The Hope Lutheran Church on St. Rt. 18 in Hamler, Ohio 43524 or to The Hamler Library in Hamler, Ohio 43524 or to The Lutheran Home of Napoleon at 1036 S. Perry Street, Napoleon, Ohio 43545.
