Lawrence R. Westrick, Sr., 84, of New Bavaria, Ohio passed away at the Vancrest Health Care Center in Holgate on July 5, 2010.

He was born December 5, 1925 in New Bavaria, Ohio to Urban and Emma (Frey) Westrick. He married Emaline Carroll on September 2, 1946 and she survives at Vancrest Health Care Center.

Lawrence farmed with his family, drove Pet Milk truck and retired from G.M. Powertrain after 25 years of service. Lawrence also enjoyed traveling and camping. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria, UAW Local 211 of Defiance and a life member of the New Bavaria V.F.W. Post 8847. He was a WWII Marine Corps Veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre.

Lawrence is survived by eight sons: Michael of Defiance, Daniel (Susan) of Defiance, Edwin (Patricia) of Holgate, Carl (Cheryl) of New Bavaria, Mark (Debra) of New Bavaria, Joseph of Dearborn, Michigan, Anthony (Lisa) of Irving, Texas, and Richard (Cheryl) of New Bavaria; three daughters: Mary Ann Wilson of Holgate, Teresa (Roy) Medina of Holgate, and Julie (David) Mays of Berea, Kentucky; a daughter-in-law: Barbara Westrick of Defiance; three brothers: Eugene (Bernice) of Defiance, Paul (Dolly) of Ottawa, Ohio and Arthur (Georgiann) of New Bavaria; six sisters: Mary Catherine (Bernard) Heyman of Weston, Edie (Dale) Ott of Defiance, Irene (Richard) Wenzinger of Continental, Danelda Lee of Bowling Green, Donna Mae (Thomas) Barlage of Leipsic, and Caroline Schmitz of Glandorf, OH; sister-in-law Donna Jean Bollenbacher of Leipsic; 44 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren and 2 step great-granchildren.

Lawrence is preceded in death by a son Lawrence Westrick, Jr.; a daughter Kathleen Westrick; a grandson Lawrence Westrick III; a brother Harold Westrick and a sister Evelyn Drummer.

Friends will be received at Snyder Funeral Home of Holgate on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 2 - 9 P.M. where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M.

Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the New Bavaria V.F.W.
